I love driving down to play golf at Trump International in West Palm Beach because it is the United Nations of interesting people! The President’s staff has people from all over the world including a Filipino cook from Manila. Laughing and talking Tagalog we entertained the dining room with stories of the Philippines. I laughed even harder when I was served the “Trump
Burger” which was unmistakable by the name branded into the bun!
- Tom Randall Explores James Patterson’s Solitary Golf Game and Creative Process
Joining us for lunch was the accomplished author, James Patterson who’s books I have read on planes during those long trips across the Pacific to Asia. James played just in front of us, oblivious to the
secret service detail and the presence of the President’s group behind on every hole. The author is always the first tee time in the morning and always plays alone. Of course, I had to know why he plays alone. He said he get his creative stories and inspiration for his books while walking and playing golf each morning.
Obviously, it works for him since the 75-year-old
author has written 114 New York Times bestsellers and sold 400 million copies worldwide. He recently co-authored a book with President Clinton called The President is Missing. James is unusually proficient at dreaming up fascinating plots! This
talent has earned him over $700 million. I guess it’s working for him! He was recently on the Late Show with Steven Colbert and was asked how long it takes him to write one of his bestselling novels. His wife, Susan, confirms it only takes six hours each book. About half as long as it takes me to read one! (Note from Karen: Tom Randall took six hours just to write this newsletter! ●:”-)
But despite being in the Guinness Record Book for his prolific writing he smiled in agreement when I mentioned he was second by a very large margin to the number of Bibles printed and sold. Even James Patterson can’t outwrite God!
“So, faith comes from hearing. and hearing through the Word of Christ…their voice has gone out to all
the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” Romans 10:17,18 ESV
After praying with the cook, a secret service agent, James Patterson and the President I really enjoyed the drive back to Orlando. I was reminded of how gracious the Lord has been letting me share the Gospel with so many different characters around the world.
“Jabez called upon the God of Israel saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm
so that it might not bring me pain!” I Chronicles 4:10
My enlarged borders have been the many people God has put in front of me during my travels!
His Word lives in us,
