What does LMS mean?

Virtual modern learning is an integral part of modern society. It can be partially or entirely digital and does not require the student or some employee to visit the institution physically. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection.

LMS is a specialized software solution. The aspects, features, and needs of online learning are considered when creating it. Using such tools, you can organize processes, plan, schedule, create reports, etc. And one software is used for this. They are necessary to simplify and speed up necessary processes for all training participants. It applies to students, teachers, and administrators responsible for working with the LMS.

Ways of interaction

To organize the work of a teacher and student using modern LMS solutions, you can follow two approaches: a mixed type or online method. In the case of the online method, personal presence is not required since everything happens online. For these situations, it is important to use special software adapted to perform all tasks in real-time.

Blended learning is different in that online tools are used to support the physical process of learning new material. In most cases, modern online opportunities are still widely used. It is also because most programs are adapted to work with different types of devices. Students are not required to have a laptop. All you have to do is connect via tablet or smartphone.

Types of LMS

There are four main types of LMS.

  • Cloud. It is the easiest and fastest way to start learning or working online. Such software is hosted in cloud storage, so there is no need to download or install software. Most often, access is provided through a subscription. The settings are minimal, which is also convenient. The range of modern cloud systems is constantly expanding;
  • Local. They are used within companies or institutions and are completely hosted on servers. These LMSs cost more, and setup usually requires the participation of an IT specialist. Most often, they are developed for specific needs;
  • Individuals. A good choice for a company with a large budget and special requirements for an LMS solution. Individual development can easily provide full access to the management and configuration of each component of a digital product. The cost of the software is high, but it will fully meet your strict needs;
  • Open source. They are available for free use conditions. They are chosen by companies that do not have a large budget or the high ability to develop a project from scratch. Adaptation requires programming skills.

Certain types of LMS are suitable for each situation and company. However, they are united by the fact that such tools have become highly convenient and multifunctional and fully open up vast opportunities for online study.
